Creating an Access Form

1. Launch Access and select Open Database ...

2. Open the database you created in the previous section (your database contains no data at the moment).

3. In the Database window click on the Forms tab.

4. Press the New button.

5. From the New Form dialogue box select Design View and choose the table where the data will come from (In this example the table is called "sample".) and click OK.

6. The Form Design view appears.

7. Go to the View menu and open the Field List associated with the Table you are using.

NOTE: It is VERY difficult to incorporate fields from several Tables when using this technique. If you need to use several database on the same Form use one of the Form Wizards.

Important Note for Access 2000 Users ...
It can be complicated to activate the "Field List" window in Access 2000 unless you set up the Form in the first place using the Form Wizard. For further information see here... (Press the Browser Back button to return to this page.)

8. The Field List box appears.

9. Drag each of the Field names from the Field List box and drop them into position onto the Form.

10. You can reposition a Field by click on it and moving the cursor over the Field entry box until it turns into a small hand. You can seelct several fields at once using Click/Shift, or Click/Ctrl. If you have trouble positioning the Fields use the Snap to Grid feature by selecting Format/Snap to Grid from the Menu bar.

11. Go to View mode by selecting the View icon at the top-left of the Tool Bar.

12. The Form view appears.

13. Exit the Form view by clicking on the Close Box (the cross at the top-right of the window). You will be prompted to give your new Form a name (I suggest using the same name as the associated Table.) and click OK.

14. You will be returned to the Database window with your new Form listed. (You should also be able to see the Table you created previously by clicking on the Tables tab.)

Congratulations. You have just created a Form into which you can enter your data.
