L3CT Status is not -
- recognition of longevity of teaching.
- recognition of age.
- a natural progression from "Senior Teacher" status.
- recognition of classroom skills.
- an automatic salary scale increment.
To attain L3CT status you must demonstrate mastery of specific competencies. In general, you must be a competent classroom teacher AND be active educationally outside the classroom (District -> State -> National).
The checklist below is not comprehensive. There are many other areas you may think of.
Join your Professional
Association.
Join the
Management Committee of your Association.
Attend
Professional Association Conferences.
Conduct
Conference sessions.
Contribute to
your Association's Journal
Join educational
email 'lists' and participate actively.
Establish a Collegiate Support scheme.
Maintain a
personal Reflective Journal.
Become a member
of your school Planning Committee.
Become a member
of your school Reporting Committee.
Become an active
member of your school Council/P&C.
Conduct Staff
Professional Development.
Conduct
District-wide PD.
Develop resources
and distribute them to others.
Write Texts and
booklets.
Develop an
Internet/Intranet resource site.
Set up projects
and apply for funding.
Be an active
Union Branch member.
Be an active
Staff Association member.
Develop new
curriculum.
Promote a culture
of proper acknowledgement.
Give and receive written
feedback to/from colleagues and superiors.
