The Reflective Review of Learning

Based on material at: http://www.qub.ac.uk/mgt/itsoc/proj/learnlog.html

Many organisations encourage their workers, individually and in teams, to use quality management techniques to continually improve the quality of their work. Two key features of quality management are:

Every month, or so, look over your notes in private, and reflect on the learning processes you have gone through. Write brief notes during the reflection process:

Did something go well?
Then what did you learn from it? How can you build upon it?
Then what did you learn from it? How can you build upon it?

Did something go badly?
Then exactly what went wrong? How can you fix it, overcome difficulties, and improve upon it?

Have you addressed your Focus Issues?
Does it cover all cases, or are there alternatives? What new questions have been raised?

Have your ideas changed?
If so, why? Can you now synthesise different ideas and strategies?

What support do you need in order to resolve these issues?
Professional development? Talking with a mentor? Additional resources?

Following the personal Reflective Review you should make arrangements with your Line Manager to discuss matters raised during the process and consider strategies for addressing unresolved issues.
