Languages Other Than English (LOTE)

Overview of the LOTE Student Outcome Statements

The Student Outcome Statements provide developmental sequences which show progression towards achievement of the Curriculum Council’s Learning Area Statement’s first three major outcomes for LOTE which focus on communication and language use. The remaining three major outcomes, essential for successful achievement of the first three major outcomes, are not sequenced developmentally. These unsequenced major outcomes will be monitored explicitly through the first three major outcomes, i.e. through language use.

The Student Outcome Statements for LOTE are organised into three strands which correspond directly to the first three major outcomes. Achievement is described in eight progressive levels and forms a series of inclusive categories along a continuum. The existing syllabuses and curriculum support materials may be used as supporting documents to the Student Outcome Statements.
