MSW Logo Resource Page for Schools

For details contact

This page is devoted to providing resources to support MSW Logo. MSW Logo is FREE for educational use - you can make multiple copies for school use and even give copies to your students to take home.

MSW Logo was developed by George Mills using core code written by staff and students at the University of Southern California, Berkeley (UCB). UCB Logo is available for DOS, UNIX and Macintosh operating systems. You can also obtain the source code (in 'C') for the core logo environment. George Mills has developed and enhanced the original form of UCB Logo to make it a fully multimedia programming package. MSW Logo offers all the elegant simplicity of the common logo languages while providing access to the set of Windows functions usually associated with more advanced programming languages. MSW Logo meets the needs of users from novice to expert - and it costs not one cent!!

The official MSW Logo web site is: http://www.softronix.com

Have you downloaded Version 6.4 yet?? From this version you can read the Analogue to Digital (AtoD) lines at the Games Port. This means you can incorporate Joystick control into your procedures and do all sorts of inexpensive 'Real World' sensing of Light, Temperature, etc. (See the Web-based Introduction to MSW Logo below for details on how to use this new function.)

MSW Logo "HELP" file in Word/Office97 format including the 'index' file. Download the 180kB zipped file. This file is a modified form of the standard Word file that can be downloaded from www.softronix.com. It has been 'cleaned up' to make it suitable to print out as a booklet (320 pages!) It includes an index of all commands.

A Web-based Introduction to MSW Logo - A set of introductory screens in HTML taking the novice user through various aspects of MSW Logo. Educational institutions can obtain unlimited Site Rights to duplicate this material, or install it on intranets. Site Rights includes authority to duplicate copies of the companion booklet "MSW Logo - A Simplified Reference - Version 2" (see: logoman2.zip)

For a preview of what you could set up see: http://www.southwest.com.au/~jfuller/logotut/menu.htm

Introductory Manual (In Word Format) logomanl.zip (48Kb) - A brief introduction to the Command Centre and Input Box. Sample code including using MSW Logo with a parallel port interface (see: robokit.html) The HELP menu in MSW Logo will tell you everything you need to know. This manual is just to get you started. NOTE: Most of this manual has been updated to become Version 2 below. I have left it here (Errors and all) only because it contains I/O information not included in Version 2. Eventually it will be removed.

Introductory Manual Version 2 (In Word 6/Office95 Format) logoman2.zip (158Kb) - An updated version of the above manual with reference to parallel port interfacing removed. This is a more general form of the previous one. I intend using this as the basis of introductory PD sessions for Primary School Teachers.

Using MSW Logo to Control Interfaces mswintro.zip (63Kb) - A brief Introduction to using MSW Logo with the Simplified I/O Board. (See: sio5.html) Also included are sample procedures for using ARRAYS in MSW Logo.

MSW Logo Activity Sheets mswact.zip - Originally intended for use with Teacher PD, but you may find them useful with your students. Two sheets, both focussed on using MSW Logo in conjunction with the Simplified I/O Board.

Resources: These are the latest resources. Some are for use in conjunction with the parallel port interface (see: robokit.html). Even if you don't have an interface, you will find the sample code useful. Feel free to download and use them as you wish.
