Creating a Panorama ...

 For everything you ever wanted to know about Panoramas see: http://www.panoguide.com

Mandurah Boardwalk

Can you find the Hot-Spot over the Performing Arts Centre at the end of the jetty?

1. Take your pictures

A tripod may help, but Panorama Factory (PF) does an unbelievable job of stitching images together. By default, PF assumes you will rotate clockwise (moving from left to right). It does have a "reverse order" button if necessary. Overlap each picture by about 25%. This means each panorama will be around 12 to 15 shots.

2. Use Panorama Factory to 'stitch' them into a 3600 .jpg file: http://www.panoramafactory.com

3. Download the Java Applets  from: http://persoweb.francenet.fr/~carl/brique/applets1.html

4. Unzip applpano.zip and transfer "panorama.class", "fenetre.class" and "target.class"  to the same location as the web page containing the link to your panorama image (either on your hard disk, or uploaded to your ISP).

5. Insert the following section of code into the body section of your web page. Adjust the "width" and "height" to suit your image. Change "filename.jpg" to the name of your panorama image and that's all there is to it.

<body>
...
...

<APPLET CODE="panorama.class" WIDTH=400 HEIGHT=110 ALIGN = CENTER>
<PARAM NAME=panorama VALUE="filename.jpg">
</APPLET>

...
</body>

NOTE: You may need to adjust WIDTH and HEIGHT to optomise the display for your image.

Hot-Spots? ... sure can!

You can also include up to 16 Hot-Spots that take you off to other images, or Web pages when locations on the panorama are clicked.

The full script becomes...

<APPLET CODE="panorama.class" WIDTH=400 HEIGHT=110 ALIGN = CENTER>
<PARAM NAME=panorama VALUE="filename.jpg">
< ! parameter of the file name of the main picture >
<PARAM NAME=target1 VALUE="500,20,170,40,Title for Applet Window,filename1.jpg">
<! parameter of the first target : x0, y0, width, height, title, picture file name >
<PARAM NAME=target2 VALUE="675,42,36,31,l'église de la madelaine,examap1.htm">
<! you can put a relative or absolute link >
<! up to 16 targets ..........>
</APPLET>

This feature has application with the "Virtual Excursion" concept presented by Mike Leishman at the 2002 ECAWA Conference - Lots of possibilities!

NOTE: You can make larger panoramas than shown on this page using the panorama.class approach.
The size was reduced here to help with download times.

If you want to make panoramas for use on CD ROMs, or Hard Disks (or fast networks) you should look at Panorama Factory's 'wizard' for making QuickTime panoramas. It is magic, but the QuickTime file comes out at around 500KB.

(With thanks to Mike Leishman for the tip.)

You can also use Panorama Factory to make 'flat' panoramas if you can't produce a full 360 degree view.
